Copenhagen
Legend has it that in the 11th century, a Viking chief named Sweyn Forkbeard was rowing with his men in the waters near Copenhagen. As they approached the shore, Sweyn exclaimed, “By Odin’s beard, this is a great spot for a city!” And so, Copenhagen was founded.
Over the centuries, Copenhagen grew into a bustling metropolis, but not without some quirky moments. In 1807, British naval forces bombed the city and famously missed the target, hitting a church instead. And in 1962, a group of artists staged a “happening” in which they rode bicycles through the streets while wearing fish costumes. Today, Copenhagen is known for its beautiful architecture, charming canals, and excellent biking culture.
