Sintra
Sintra is a town located in the foothills of the Sintra Mountains in Portugal. Over the centuries, it has been inhabited by various groups, including the Celts, Moors, and Christians.
During the Middle Ages, Sintra was owned by the Portuguese royal family and was used as a summer retreat. Many of the town’s most famous landmarks, such as the Palácio Nacional de Sintra, were built during this time.
In the 19th century, Sintra became a popular destination for wealthy Europeans, and many grand villas and estates were built in the area. Some of the most notable include the Palácio da Pena, the Quinta da Regaleira, and the Monserrate Palace.
Today, Sintra is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and a popular tourist destination, with many of its historic landmarks open to the public for exploration and enjoyment.
